We have just been trying to make a lightweight sailing canoe that is still a stiff, seaworthy sail boat. We have used a simple lightweight plywood foredeck with wide side decks and fixed seat, but left the stern open. This will allow easy stowage of portage trolley or gear in a drybag. It weighs 65lb which is 20lb lighter than my fully plywood decked Fulmar. The deck is flat to make it easy and secure to cartop, and has built in buoyancy front and back. It will have buoyancy bags under the side decks. When it is finished we will test it and see how it performs.
